Abstract
1.) AXIS Apprenticeship Immersion
2.) AXIS Apprenticeship Immersion will give (1) dancer with SCI the experience of training with and performing in a top-notch integrated arts environment for 10-months. The program will provide essential tools to increase their employment choices through in-depth training/exposure including participation in daily company class, touring and performance opportunities, AXIS annual summer intensive & teacher training, teaching in local integrated outreach programming, and exposure/mentorship with local accomplished artists working directly with the company. To help facilitate this daily lifestyle, AXIS will provide an apprentice stipend, accommodations stipend, dance wheelchair & required equipment, physical therapy and professional development. As an extension of the programming AXIS will provide (3) scholarships and cost of living provisions to dancers with SCI to attend Summer Intensive training for 10-days in Oakland, CA.
3.) During the proposed program AXIS will: 1. Recruit and hire (1) individual apprentice with SCI; Provide necessary daily living tools for them to succeed; Apprentice will participate in one national tour and home season performance in Oakland, CA; AXIS will also identify and award scholarships to (3) individuals with SCI to attend 2019 summer intensive training.
4.) Planned residency and scholarships will provide essential opportunities for the artists with SCI to strategically advance their career within the professional contemporary dance field. This will increase their skill level and the possibilities for their career aspirations. Opportunities like this are rare for the artist with SCI and in alignment with the mission of Craig H. Neilsen Foundation to create opportunity and independence.
