Abstract
Adaptive Sports Program of Ohio (ASPO) is seeking support from the Craig H. Neilsen Foundation for improving the health and wellness of individuals with SCI through its wheelchair softball, wheelchair rugby, sled hockey and strength and fitness programs. Adaptive sports have a powerful effect on the lives of individuals with spinal cord injuries. The benefits of participation include greater self-confidence and self-empowerment, improved independence, decreased isolation and better physical health. With over nine years of experience, ASPO’s programs offer the consistent, quality opportunities needed to assist individuals with spinal cord injuries in utilizing sport as a catalyst for greater emotional and physical well-being. Support from the Craig H. Nelsen would enable ASPO to provide year-round opportunities for individuals with spinal cord injuries of all ages from across Ohio to increase their independence and improve their quality of life.
