Abstract
Goodwill of Orange County was founded in Santa Ana, CA in 1924 as a part of a nationwide social justice movement founded by Rev. Edgar Helms of Boston, MA. Today, Goodwill is a major nonprofit in Orange County serving individuals who have barriers to employment. Goodwill has developed numerous workforce and specialty programs to meet the needs of special populations. In addition to a comprehensive workforce development program, Goodwill's Fitness Center, provides an adaptive, state-of-the-art exercise facility specially designed for people with Spinal Cord Injury (SCI). Built in 2008, the Fitness Center offers exercise options for people with SCI and others with limited mobility to have a wide-ranging workout. In 2018, the Fitness Center served 80 individuals with SCI through gym memberships. The Fitness Center Enhancement program will add to the offerings of available equipment and scholarships available at the Fitness Center as well as a new component with the SCI support group.

Goodwill’s Fitness Center requests a grant in the amount of $30,000 to start a support group for people with SCI, offer 37 full gym membership scholarships for 12 months to people with SCI and purchase 2 VitaGlides, to improve workouts for people with SCI.
