Abstract
United Spinal Association of VA Ramp Project
The main goal of the project is to decrease deferred dispositions of new Spinal Cord Injured individuals due to inaccessibility into their homes at the time of hospital discharges. This project will provide more timely and appropriate accessibility for the newly injured individuals to re-enter their home environments which is often not possible most especially for low income individuals. In addition, there are hospital regulations prohibiting discharge into an unsafe environment. Oftentimes, these patients are later discharged into skilled nursing facilities where there are often no appropriate rehabilitative services much needed for the newly injured individual to reenter his or her social and recreational life and so critically needed for enhancing the SCI (Spinal Cord Injury) individual’s as well as her or his family’s quality of life. The expected outcome of the project is to provide 10 to 15 ramps to low income newly injured SCI individuals to ingress and egress their home in an effort to decrease the number of delayed discharges and to increase the capacity of outreach and assessment of needs for United Spinal Association of VA members.
