Accessible Van for Therapeutic Recreation

Abstract
The Adaptive Sports Center (ASC) is requesting funding for our Accessible Van for Therapeutic Recreation Project. In April of 2018, the ASC will break ground on a new, twenty-five thousand square foot therapeutic recreation facility that will greatly increase our client capacity and provide us with a permanent home in the Crested Butte Mountain Resort base area. As our client base increases, we foresee the need for an additional 15-seat accessible passenger van. The purchase of a second accessible passenger van is critically important to serving more individuals with spinal cord injuries. It will help us serve our current clients with SCI from partner rehabilitation organizations by providing them with transportation from regional airports as well as to and from various recreation sites in and around Crested Butte, Colorado. Our project intersects with the Neilsen Foundation’s mission to support those with spinal cord injuries because our project will directly benefit our SCI clients by decreasing the stress associated with travel in an unfamiliar area. We serve approximately 150-200 people affected by or living with spinal cord injuries (SCI) each year. We are committed to empowering people with SCI to live independently with improved social, emotional, and physical well-being. A second accessible passenger van will allow us to provide our life-changing services to even more people with SCI. (CHN: COandI chn:wdg)
